We have surrounded the (entirely dysfuntional) existing structure with a self sustaining "Earthship" based envelope. It is passively heated and cooled (with some help from a wood stove this year), powered by solar cells and wind generation, and composting all sewage. We're building approximately 7000 square feet, with rooms for guests, a library and common area, and office space, as well as spaces for sculpting, painting, music and meditation.
We are doing most of the construction ourselves, and there are a great many non-traditional and alternative techniques being employed.
